I just recently finished reading the second book in Stephen King’s Bill Hodge’s trilogy. I thought it was a pretty good follow up to the first one, but I did not like it more than the first book. I thought the first book kept me guess and in suspense and I felt that Brady was a good character that was just devious and evil. Morris is alright, but there was not as much there as with Brady. I felt I got a good background on Brady and not as much on Morris. Maybe it was more because in this book you have 2 story timelines going in the sense of when Morris committed the crime and then when Pete finds the journals and money and Morris is released from prison.
I did find it neat that there was a connection to the first book in the sense that Pete’s dad was one of the people hurt when Brady ran over the people in the first book. Which in turn you still had the character’s of Jerome and his little sister and his sister is friends with Pete’s sister, so you have a few ways that the stories are connected. Then part of you thinks man this poor area of town they have Brady and now Morris what is going on here?!
I thought the suspense was pretty good, but again not as much as in the first one. I thought the story was interesting the fact that for some reason this author’s books grab Pete and Morris so much that they become obsessed with the story. It is interesting too that Bill still goes and sees Brady. When I finished the first book I was sure that somehow Brady was going to be involved in the second story, and he was, but not in they way I thought he was. It seems though that he will be involved somehow in the third novel. However, I am hoping the book doesn’t go down a too weird psychological I am able to do things with my mind. Meaning I think so far we have had two killers and Bill finding them and now if Brady is using his mind to do stuff it might be weird. No matter though I will be reading the third one!
