Book Description:

Historian Diana Bishop, descended from a line of powerful witches, and long-lived vampire Matthew Clairmont have broken the laws dividing creatures. When Diana discovered a significant alchemical manuscript in the Bodleian Library, she sparked a struggle in which she became bound to Matthew. Now the fragile coexistence of witches, daemons, vampires and humans is dangerously threatened.
Seeking safety, Diana and Matthew travel back in time to London, 1590. But they soon realize that the past may not provide a haven. Reclaiming his former identity as poet and spy for Queen Elizabeth, the vampire falls back in with a group of radicals known as the School of Night. Many are unruly daemons, the creative minds of the age, including playwright Christopher Marlowe and mathematician Thomas Harriot.
Together Matthew and Diana scour Tudor London for the elusive manuscript Ashmole 782, and search for the witch who will teach Diana how to control her remarkable powers…

I really enjoyed the second book in this series. I really like that this series has some thrills, romance, humor, and fun. I also really like reading a book again where it isn’t a love triangle going on or you spending the whole time wondering if they are going to get together. Instead I get to focus on the story and enjoy what is happening. I love the banter between Matthew and Diana, well really everyone’s sense of humor in this is good.

I really enjoy all the new characters that were introduced and the fact of them going back in time it was fun reading about all the people that they meet and just how it all works out for them. It has been fun seeing what all Diana is able to do and how the past ends up with the present like meeting Philippe and how he gets word to the present. Just all of it tangled together is fun. It always makes me think like so in reality they were probably always supposed to travel back in time. It just makes you think.

I am kept on my seat while I am reading this thinking okay what is going to happen with the Book of Life, what is the outcome of the DNA of everything, how can Blood Rage be cured, what crazy thing is going to happen next! I think the whole alchemical aspect of the story is very fun, especially how Diana and Matthew are portrayed with it. I also enjoy there is always something unexpected that comes up, like especially with the vampire families like who ends up being related to who etc. I was afraid at first when they met Philippe that Diana and Matthew might not be together because he stated they weren’t really married, but that got fixed and all was okay!

I can’t wait to read the third one and find out what happens!
