The Firebird Chronicles: The Gell

2016-11-30T22:56:09-07:00November 30th, 2016|Tags: , , , |0 Comments

Book Description: Enjoy exploring the world of the Firebird Chronicles series with this accompanying short story. It's Fletcher and Scoop's Beginning year at Blotting's Academy - the place where all story characters go to be trained. Join the young Apprentice Adventurers as they find themselves stranded on a rock in the middle of the ocean, with no visible means of escape. It's time for them to learn one of the basic lessons of stories - risks have to be taken. I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I have read the second book in this series and this short story takes place between the first one and the one I read. I thought it was a fun read, I did miss hearing all of the different fun named places. I do get though it was a short story so they can't all be named. I still think the idea behind this series is fun and that it appeals to all ages, although I would say to the younger crowd, but I still enjoy reading it. I like that there are little life lessons that you [...]

Enchanting the Fey

2016-11-29T18:41:43-07:00November 29th, 2016|Tags: , , |0 Comments

Book Description: The day Desmoree Shale was kidnapped and awoke naked on a slab in a Sydney morgue should have been the worst day of her life – but she’s not dead, barely harmed, and her would be assassin, Jax, is actually kind of… cute. Tempted by the idea of a mythical fairy-land, Des joins Jax in discovering the past her mother was determined to keep hidden. She quickly learns there was a reason for her mother’s secrecy. Finding herself smack in the middle of an eons-old war between two feuding Fey species, prophesized to take on a vicious beast, and pressured to unlock her magic is not what Des had been expecting. Now she must decide between a terrible battle in the new life she loves or returning to piece together the one she left behind. I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I must start by saying I really love the cover that Rebecca picked. I think it just flows well and is really pretty and eye catching. I love that those blue shoes she talks about is on the cover. I thought [...]

The Introvert

2016-11-22T16:50:49-07:00November 22nd, 2016|Tags: , , |0 Comments

Book Description: A vacuum salesman by day, the introvert lives a quiet life alone with his dog until a work relationship and a dark secret from his past team up to create an uncomfortable imbalance in his otherwise ordered life, one that soon finds him squarely at the center of a murder investigation. With his thoughts continually urging him to make people “red and open” and to “achieve it” with his girlfriend Donna, what follows is a sometimes brutal, oftentimes hilarious, and absurdist account of the life of one very anti-social and unexpected anti-hero. I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I thought this book was an interesting read. It was told from the first person perspective and you never even find out the name of the person telling the story. You get to really feel what he thinks and the thought process that is inside of his head. You can tell that there is obviously something not quite right about him with the fact that he sees people as open and red when he is upset with them. Which would indicate some sort of [...]

Puck (A Twisted Lit Novel)

2016-11-16T19:15:41-07:00November 16th, 2016|Tags: , , |0 Comments

Book Description: Life isn’t always fair, and no one knows that better than fifteen-year-old Puck. When she’s unceremoniously booted from yet another foster home, this city kid lands at DreamRoads, a rehabilitation wilderness camp. Her fellow juvenile delinquents include a famous pop star with a diva attitude, a geeky, “fish out of water” math whiz, and a surly gang-banger with a chip on his shoulder. The program’s steely director aims to break Puck, but she knows that every adult has a breaking point, too. Determined to defy this realm of agonizing nature hikes and soul-sucking psychobabble — even if that means manipulating four lovestruck camp counselors and the director’s dim-witted second-in-command — Puck ultimately gets much more than she bargains for in this “wondrous strange” outdoor odyssey inspired by Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream." I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I was intrigued when I got the request to review this book because I enjoy the Midsummer Night's Dream story and thought that is cool it is a twisted version of it. Hence the name twisted lit novel. When I first started reading I [...]

Like a Closed Fist

2016-11-08T19:48:32-07:00November 8th, 2016|Tags: , , |0 Comments

Book Description: It was harmless enough: her best friend's wedding. But for California girl Phoebe, forty-eight hours in North Carolina changed her life. No one is more surprised than Phoebe when she falls hopelessly in love with her dad’s much older, very married friend. Although she wants nothing more than to jump headfirst into an affair with Mitch, he refrains, telling her she’s just a kid. Determined to prove him wrong, young Phoebe learns the irony of best laid plans. She travels to North Carolina for a wedding and accidentally falls head-over-heels for two very different men: Mason, the hotel concierge, and Frankie, a captain in the Merchant Marines. Throw in two old flames and a hunky masseur and you’ve got a most complicated love hexagon in this cautionary tale of love, sex, grief, and growing up. I am excited that I am finally getting into doing some ARC requests and want to thank E.H. Nolan for giving me the opportunity to review this book. I thought the book was an interesting twist in the sense that the ending isn't like a typical romance in the sense of how it ends [...]
