Book Description:
“There are only two reasons a non-seer would see a spirit on St. Mark’s Eve,” Neeve said. “Either you’re his true love . . . or you killed him.”
It is freezing in the churchyard, even before the dead arrive.
Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them—not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her.
His name is Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble.
But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can’t entirely explain. He has it all—family money, good looks, devoted friends—but he’s looking for much more than that. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents all the privilege around him; Ronan, the fierce soul who ranges from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher of the four, who notices many things but says very little.
For as long as she can remember, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love to die. She never thought this would be a problem. But now, as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.
From Maggie Stiefvater, the bestselling and acclaimed author of the Shiver trilogy and The Scorpio Races, comes a spellbinding new series where the inevitability of death and the nature of love lead us to a place we’ve never been before.

One of my very good friends lent me this series and I am so glad she did, it was a great read. I had it on my to-read list but hadn’t gotten around to reading it and now I am hooked on the series.

I thought the story was very unique and I haven’t read anything like it. I mean yes I have read ones about magic and things but this was a different concept. I like that it combines magic with finding an old historical figure from the time of kings. I am a huge ancient history and medieval history buff so that added in was cool. Plus I really like the idea of the lay lines and the corpse road. It just had a lot of different things mixed together that just totally worked for it.

I liked the characters they were well developed and I love the way they interact with each other, especially the boys they have their fun and their fighting, but that is just like real life. I like that they each have their own quirks and their own specialness about them. I of course love Gansey because he is on this historical hunt and he has this notebook of everything he has found. I feel bad for Adam but he is strong is his own way because of it, but I feel there is also a dark side that is waiting to come out. Ronan plays this mean guy but there is something good in him that you see every once in awhile, like with him taking care of Chainsaw his raven. Then there is Noah you aren’t quite sure at first why he is so odd, but yet his interaction with Blue makes you know him more, and then there is the surprise with him at the end (read it to find out!).

The idea that Blue was told that her true love will die keeps you wondering in the book what is going to happen, will she actually get to be with her true love and find a way to not kill him?! Of course you’re not going to find out in the first book, but you get a glimpse of what could possibly happen. Blue’s family made me laugh just how her mom and aunts and all of them interact with each other. They also have their own unique personalities and are all psychics so that makes them fun.

Just overall I thought the story was well developed and it leaves you wanting more, I am glad that I started it when the rest of the books were out. I hate waiting for the next in a series to come out, especially when you are left wanting to know what happens. It also means I won’t forget what happens in the book before when I read the rest! Anyway I totally recommend it and you should go out and read it!
