Torn (The Unraveled Kingdom #1)

2018-03-28T21:17:58-06:00March 28th, 2018|Tags: , , , , |0 Comments

Book Description: TORN is the first book in an enchanting debut fantasy series featuring a seamstress who stitches magic into clothing, and the mounting political uprising that forces her to choose between her family and her ambitions, for fans of The Queen of the Tearling. Sophie is a dressmaker who has managed to open her own shop and lift herself and her brother, Kristos, out of poverty. Her reputation for beautiful ball gowns and discreetly-embroidered charms for luck, love, and protection secures her a commission from the royal family itself -- and the commission earns her the attentions of a dashing but entirely unattainable duke. Meanwhile, Kristos rises to prominence in the growing anti-monarchist movement. Their worlds collide when the revolution's shadow leader takes him hostage and demands that Sophie place a curse on the queen's Midwinter costume -- or Kristos will die at their hand. As the proletariat uprising comes to a violent climax, Sophie is torn: between her brother and the community of her birth, and her lover and the life she's striven to build. I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. [...]

Daughter of the Pirate King (#1)

2018-01-31T20:02:18-07:00January 31st, 2018|Tags: , , , |0 Comments

Book Description: There will be plenty of time for me to beat him soundly once I’ve gotten what I came for. Sent on a mission to retrieve an ancient hidden map—the key to a legendary treasure trove—seventeen-year-old pirate captain Alosa deliberately allows herself to be captured by her enemies, giving her the perfect opportunity to search their ship. More than a match for the ruthless pirate crew, Alosa has only one thing standing between her and the map: her captor, the unexpectedly clever and unfairly attractive first mate, Riden. But not to worry, for Alosa has a few tricks up her sleeve, and no lone pirate can stop the Daughter of the Pirate King. I got this book in one of my book boxes and I was excited right away because I love anything to do with Pirates. Let me tell you I was not disappointed! I was hooked right from the beginning, I was drawn into the story and connect with the characters right away. From the start there was adventure, humor, and a hint of romance. The books characters were well developed and they played off each other well; [...]

An Appealing Apparition (Paranormal Historical #1)

2018-01-11T18:08:21-07:00January 11th, 2018|Tags: , , , , , |0 Comments

Book Description: England 1855 - The venturesome and audacious Lady Portia Phillips is determined to discover the identity of the puckish and handsome specter repeatedly appearing to her while she is visiting her cousin's country estate. As she investigates, questions arise... is this Spirit haunting her or is there some other explanation for his ethereal appearances? Is it a cry for help? Portia must learn the truth before she loses her heart to this charmingly appealing apparition. I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I had read another book that involved a ghost and human before and loved it, so I was immediately drawn to this book to see how it played out and I was not disappointed. I thought that the story was unique and a fun concept. Who knew that if you swore to be blood brothers/sisters that you would be able to astral travel to them?! Like I said it is just a fun concept and to me something I haven’t read much of before. I like that you know what is going on pretty fast and that you aren’t left guessing who [...]

Book Description:  One hit man who’s back for revenge. One detective who’s not going down without a fight. It’s been ten months since Detective Madison Knight almost died at the hands of Russian Mafia hit man Constantine Romanov. She hasn’t seen hide nor hair of him since he escaped police custody and fled to Russia soon after his arrest, except now her latest murder investigation gives her reason to believe he’s back in town. Seeing as the victim is the man who killed her grandfather, her perspective may be a little skewed, but with the MO smacking of Constantine and the victim’s connections to the mob, she finds it hard to be objective. Still, she’s doing her best to consider all the evidence. When she receives a threatening letter from Constantine, however, her suspicions are confirmed. And he’s made it abundantly clear that not only does he plan to finish what he started but he has her family and loved ones in the crosshairs, too. Madison vows to do whatever it takes to save them, but as the hours race by, the body count rises. And the stakes only get higher [...]

Blue Lily, Lily Blue / The Raven King (The Raven Cycle #3 & #4)

2017-11-02T23:01:02-06:00November 2nd, 2017|Tags: , , |0 Comments

Book Description #3: Blue Sargent has found things. For the first time in her life, she has friends she can trust, a group to which she can belong. The Raven Boys have taken her in as one of their own. Their problems have become hers, and her problems have become theirs. The trick with found things, though, is how easily they can be lost. Friends can betray. Mothers can disappear. Visions can mislead. Certainties can unravel. Book Description #4:  All her life, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love's death. She doesn't believe in true love and never thought this would be a problem, but as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she's not so sure anymore. I must say I thought this was a great series, all four of the books kept me interested and were just fun to read. I thought the premise of the story was unique and not quite like other books I have read. Yes it had magic, and romance, and stuff but it wasn't the same story that you read with just [...]

The Dream Thieves (The Raven Cycle #2)

2017-09-27T21:54:47-06:00September 27th, 2017|Tags: , , , , |0 Comments

Book Description: Now that the ley lines around Cabeswater have been woken, nothing for Ronan, Gansey, Blue, and Adam will be the same. Ronan, for one, is falling more and more deeply into his dreams, and his dreams are intruding more and more into waking life. Meanwhile, some very sinister people are looking for some of the same pieces of the Cabeswater puzzle that Gansey is after… I must say right off the bat I thought the first book was unique, and this one just got even more unique. The fact that Ronan can take stuff from his dreams! It was definitely a good twist on his character, I was wanting to know more about him from the first book and I definitely found out more in this book. I have to laugh because at the end of the book I was like well Gansey and Ronan are similar to Jace and Alec in The Mortal Instruments series; definitely not a bad thing either it was just something that popped into my head. I like that really all of the characters are becoming more developed in this book. You are seeing [...]

Taming Beauty (Dunaway’s Daughters #1)

Book Description: It’s best not to answer the door when the Earl of Dunaway come’s knocking. After learning this lesson by trial and error, as any good lesson ought to be learned, Miss Lilith Aberdeen fashioned a life for herself on the fringes of London society. She is the last lady likely to risk her independence or her heart on anything as fickle and frivolous as love. Or the waxing and waning of familial affection, for that matter. So, how is it she winds up journeying to the wilds of Cornwall to deliver the earl’s pampered, petulant daughter into the hands of the reclusive Baron Malleville? Blame it on the scandalous, unscrupulous and downright dissolute earl. Jasper Grimley has spent more than a decade living in self-imposed exile, tending his lands and waiting for his chosen bride to come of age. When his betrothed is plucked from his grasp mere months before the wedding, he sets in motion a plan to turn the Earl of Dunaway’s plethora of debts and profusion of daughters to his advantage. Unfortunately, when dealing with the earl, even the best laid plans have a tendency to [...]

The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle #1)

Book Description: “There are only two reasons a non-seer would see a spirit on St. Mark’s Eve,” Neeve said. “Either you’re his true love . . . or you killed him.” It is freezing in the churchyard, even before the dead arrive. Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them—not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her. His name is Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble. But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can’t entirely explain. He has it all—family money, good looks, devoted friends—but he’s looking for much more than that. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents all the privilege around him; Ronan, the fierce soul who ranges from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher of the four, who notices many things [...]

The Eye of Nefertiti: A Pharaoh’s Cat Novel

2017-07-30T17:55:05-06:00July 30th, 2017|Tags: , , , |0 Comments

Book Description: The cat must free Queen Nefertiti from a horrific curse The Eye of Nefertiti is both a stand-alone novel and a sequel to The Pharaoh’s Cat. The time-traveling ancient Egyptian feline with human powers returns together with his beloved Pharaoh and his close friends, the High Priest of Amun-Ra and Elena, an Egyptologist’s daughter. The cat is quick-witted, wise-cracking narrator as well as free-spirited, ever-curious protagonist, and the story he tells is an exotic, imaginative, spell-binding tragicomedy. The cat travels from present-day New York City to England, both ancient and modern, then to ancient Egypt, where he confronts a horrible demon and experiences a sublime emotion. Once back in England, he descends into a psychological abyss so deep only the Pharaoh can save him. The Eye of Nefertiti interweaves feline and human, past and present, natural and supernatural. It contains numerous surprises, twists and turns, intriguing characters, both human and animal, fascinating revelations about ancient Egyptian history and culture, and an ingenious application of the Tarot and an Italian opera. I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I was excited to read this [...]

Do the Opposite of Nothing Book Review

2017-07-06T21:24:09-06:00July 6th, 2017|Tags: , , , |0 Comments

Book Description: You enter your home after a long day ready to just relax, but the first thing you see is a pile of clutter. Ugh. Every time a pile of clutter catches your attention or gets in your way (or trips you or embarrasses you or angers you), you think to yourself, “I have to go through this…but not now, because I’m too fill-in-the-blank (tired, busy, etc.).” That intention is as far as the organizing actually gets, and the cycle just begins again. Frustrating, isn’t it? What if I told you that busting through the never ending sequence of procrastination and perpetual heaps of clutter was not only possible, but with the strategies in this book, almost painless? I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I must say I am not one that typically reads these type of books, I am all about the fantasy and fiction books in general. However, I am glad that I got a chance to read this book! I will admit it I totally resonate with most of the reasons people procrastinate...and I admit it I am a procrastinator! The [...]

Flawed (Flawed #1)

2017-05-26T17:40:26-06:00May 26th, 2017|Tags: , , , |0 Comments

Book Description: You will be punished… Celestine North lives a perfect life. She’s a model daughter and sister, she’s well-liked by her classmates and teachers, and she’s dating the impossibly charming Art Crevan. But then Celestine encounters a situation where she makes an instinctive decision. She breaks a rule and now faces life-changing repercussions. She could be imprisoned. She could be branded. She could be found flawed. In her breathtaking young adult debut, bestselling author Cecelia Ahern depicts a society where perfection is paramount and flaws lead to punishment. And where one young woman decides to take a stand that could cost her everything. Let me just first say this has to be one of my favorite books I have gotten in my book boxes yet! I wasn't sure at first how it was going to be and then I started and I just couldn't wait to read more and find out what happens! This is definitely not the normal sci fi/dystopian that I have read, meaning it has a new idea that I have not read about before. This is a society where perfection is what people need to be, [...]

Book Description: No one ever disappears completely... You leave for work one morning. Another day in your normal life. Until you come home to discover that your boyfriend has gone. His belongings have disappeared. He hasn't been at work for weeks. It's as if he never existed. But that's not possible, is it? And there is worse still to come. Because just as you are searching for him someone is also watching you. I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I have to first start out and say that I truly enjoyed this book. It kept me entertained the entire time, no grammar mistakes, it had a good plot, and the twists were good. Pretty quickly the suspense sets in with this book, you get a quick look at what is happening with Hannah and then she comes home to share good news with her boyfriend and surprise he is gone! Not just gone but everything of his has been taken from the apartment and every memory of him wiped away. At first I was thinking okay what kind of government type of conspiracy is [...]

Remnants (Brandon Fisher FBI Series #6)

2017-04-11T16:20:04-06:00April 11th, 2017|Tags: , , , , |0 Comments

Book Description: When multiple body parts are recovered from the Little Ogeechee River in Savannah, Georgia, local law enforcement calls in FBI agent and profiler Brandon Fisher and his team to investigate. But with the remains pointing to three separate victims, this isn’t proving to be an open-and-shut case. With no quick means of identifying the deceased, building a profile of this serial killer is more challenging than usual. How are these targets being selected? Why are their limbs being severed and their bodies mutilated? And what is it about them that is triggering this person to murder? The questions compound as the body count continues to rise, and when a torso painted blue and missing its heart is found, the case takes an even darker turn. But this is only the beginning, and these new leads draw the FBI into a creepy psychological nightmare. One thing is clear, though: The killing isn’t going to stop until they figure it all out. And they are running out of time… I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This is the 6th book in the series, but [...]

Hey Everyone! I am back! It has been a bit, had some tests for grad school so had to focus on that, but I have now had a chance to write a blog post! I got do to an interview with Kel O'Connor, the author of Broken Bits! She also agreed to do a giveaway of a copy of her book as well! So please enjoy the interview and enter the giveaway below! I will be picking a winner on Tuesday March 28th. How did you come up with the idea for Broken Bits? It actually started as a fanfiction about Lucas North from the British tv show M15.  And while there are some similarities to Lucas, Mick turned out to be a much more interesting character. What author(s) have inspired you to become a writer? I started writing in elementary school- making up books for my younger sisters.  But my favorite authors have always been Anne Stuart and Stephen King. What was the hardest part of writing your book? Just getting the first draft done! After that, it is much easier to edit. If your book was turned into a [...]
