Second Grave on the Left (Charley Davidson #2)

2016-10-12T20:57:37-06:00October 12th, 2016|Tags: , , |0 Comments

Book Description: If you hang around with dead people, life can get pretty complicated. Take it from Charley Davidson, part-time private investigator and full-time Grim Reaper. Complicated is her middle name. The deceased find her very sparkly. Demons find her irresistible. And one entity in particular wants to seduce her in every way possible. When Charley and Cookie (her best friend/receptionist) have to track down a missing woman, the case is not quite as open and shut as they anticipate. Cookie's friend Mimi disappeared five days earlier. Mimi then sends Cookie a cryptic message telling Cookie to meet her at an nearby coffee shop. The coffee is brewing, but Mimi's still missing. There is, however, a clue Mimi left on the bathroom wall: a woman's name. Mimi's husband explains to them that his wife had been acting strange since she found out an old high school friend had been murdered. The same woman whose name Mimi had scribbled on the bathroom wall. Meanwhile, Reyes Alexander Farrow (otherwise known as the Son of Satan. Yes. Literally) has left his corporeal body and is haunting Charley. He's left his body because he's being [...]

Red Rising Trilogy

2016-09-29T18:32:28-06:00September 29th, 2016|Tags: , , , , |0 Comments

Book Descriptions: Red Rising: "I live for the dream that my children will be born free," she says. "That they will be what they like. That they will own the land their father gave them." "I live for you," I say sadly. Eo kisses my cheek. "Then you must live for more." Darrow is a Red, a member of the lowest caste in the color-coded society of the future. Like his fellow Reds, he works all day, believing that he and his people are making the surface of Mars livable for future generations. Yet he spends his life willingly, knowing that his blood and sweat will one day result in a better world for his children. But Darrow and his kind have been betrayed. Soon he discovers that humanity already reached the surface generations ago. Vast cities and sprawling parks spread across the planet. Darrow—and Reds like him—are nothing more than slaves to a decadent ruling class. Inspired by a longing for justice, and driven by the memory of lost love, Darrow sacrifices everything to infiltrate the legendary Institute, a proving ground for [...]

Worlds of Ink and Shadow

Book Description: Charlotte, Branwell, Emily, and Anne. The Brontë siblings have always been close. After all, nothing can unite four siblings quite like life in an isolated parsonage on the moors. Their vivid imaginations lend them escape from their strict, spartan upbringing, actually transporting them into their created worlds: the glittering Verdopolis and the romantic and melancholy Gondal. But at what price? As Branwell begins to slip into madness and the sisters feel their real lives slipping away, they must weigh the cost of their powerful imaginations, even as their characters—the brooding Rogue and dashing Duke of Zamorna—refuse to let them go. This is the book I received in my January Owl Crate book box. Yes it is from January, but mind you I have 2 book boxes I get a month and books I find on my own so trying to keep up with all those and school and work and life it gets me behind, unfortunately because I would love to just be able to read and read. Anyway I was never a huge fan of the Bronte works themselves I have read them and they are alright, but [...]

The Neverland Wars

2016-09-02T15:26:05-06:00September 2nd, 2016|Tags: , , , , |1 Comment

Book Description: Magic can do a lot—give you flight, show you mermaids, help you taste the stars, and… solve the budget crisis? That's what the grown-ups will do with it if they ever make it to Neverland to steal its magic and bring their children home. However, Gwen doesn't know this. She's just a sixteen-year-old girl with a place on the debate team and a powerful crush on Jay, the soon-to-be homecoming king. She doesn't know her little sister could actually run away with Peter Pan, or that she might have to chase after her to bring her home safe. Gwen will find out though—and when she does, she'll discover she's in the middle of a looming war between Neverland and reality. She'll be out of place as a teenager in Neverland, but she won't be the only one. Peter Pan's constant treks back to the mainland have slowly aged him into adolescence as well. Soon, Gwen will have to decide whether she's going to join impish, playful Peter in his fight for eternal youth… or if she's going to scramble back to reality in time for the homecoming dance. I [...]

Update-Why I Was Away

2016-09-02T15:03:59-06:00September 2nd, 2016|Tags: |0 Comments

Wow! Well it has been a long time since I was able to publish anything on here. Let's just preface this with, my summer did not go as I had thought. I am working full-time and also working on getting my masters, so I have been taking class for the last 2 years straight including summer. This summer I actually didn't have to take a class and was just going to take one this fall. I was so excited to not have homework. I had plans of getting my house organized and doing a lot of reading and crafting. Well a couple weeks into my summer vacation on my Hubby and I's 5th wedding anniversary we had a pipe break downstairs while we were gone and it flooded the entire downstairs. Which then started the chaos that was my summer. They had to have someone come in and rip out all of our floor. We had carpet and laminate. Then they had to take the tile off the fireplace, they had to take all the kick boards off the cabinets in the kitchens and bathrooms and then they had to bring [...]

Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy #2)

2016-06-23T15:25:02-06:00June 23rd, 2016|Tags: , , , , , , |1 Comment

Book Description: Historian Diana Bishop, descended from a line of powerful witches, and long-lived vampire Matthew Clairmont have broken the laws dividing creatures. When Diana discovered a significant alchemical manuscript in the Bodleian Library, she sparked a struggle in which she became bound to Matthew. Now the fragile coexistence of witches, daemons, vampires and humans is dangerously threatened. Seeking safety, Diana and Matthew travel back in time to London, 1590. But they soon realize that the past may not provide a haven. Reclaiming his former identity as poet and spy for Queen Elizabeth, the vampire falls back in with a group of radicals known as the School of Night. Many are unruly daemons, the creative minds of the age, including playwright Christopher Marlowe and mathematician Thomas Harriot. Together Matthew and Diana scour Tudor London for the elusive manuscript Ashmole 782, and search for the witch who will teach Diana how to control her remarkable powers... I really enjoyed the second book in this series. I really like that this series has some thrills, romance, humor, and fun. I also really like reading a book again where it isn't a love triangle [...]

Voyager (Outlander #3)

2016-06-07T15:19:31-06:00June 7th, 2016|Tags: , , , , |0 Comments

Book Description: Their passionate encounter happened long ago by whatever measurement Claire Randall took. Two decades before, she had traveled back in time and into the arms of a gallant eighteenth-century Scot named Jamie Fraser. Then she returned to her own century to bear his child, believing him dead in the tragic battle of Culloden. Yet his memory has never lessened its hold on her... and her body still cries out for him in her dreams. Then Claire discovers that Jamie survived. Torn between returning to him and staying with their daughter in her own era, Claire must choose her destiny. And as time and space come full circle, she must find the courage to face the passion and pain awaiting her...the deadly intrigues raging in a divided Scotland... and the daring voyage into the dark unknown that can reunite or forever doom her timeless love. I must admit I went into this book with some hope, in the middle I thought I am not sure I will finish the series, and ended with yes I will continue onto the next book. I feel like with this series it is like [...]

The Nemesis Charm (The Firebird Chronicles #2)

2016-05-26T19:10:04-06:00May 26th, 2016|Tags: , , , , |0 Comments

Book Description: They say only the dead can cross a Threshold, the dead and those who have faced a Nemesis Charm. When Apprentice Adventurers, Fletcher and Scoop, discover their mother has fallen under the curse of a strange sickness, they prepare to sail for its source, a Threshold, a doorway to the world beyond the Un-Crossable Boundary. But they are not the only ones seeking to cross the Threshold. Their old enemy, Grizelda, has heard that beyond the Boundary lives a woman with the same power as the Storyteller. With the help of a monster made with an undead heart, she plans to cross the Boundary and steal that power for herself. If she succeeds, the Academy, the island and everything in Fletcher and Scoop's world will be hers. I was very excited to get a chance to read this book because it is my first ARC book review! I was given a copy of The Nemesis Charm in exchange for an honest review. I have actually not read the first book however the 2nd book does well as a stand alone novel in the sense that I could figure out [...]

Finders Keepers (Bill Hodges Trilogy #2)

2016-05-23T20:52:35-06:00May 23rd, 2016|Tags: , , , , , , |1 Comment

Book Description: “Wake up, genius.” So begins King’s instantly riveting story about a vengeful reader. The genius is John Rothstein, an iconic author who created a famous character, Jimmy Gold, but who hasn’t published a book for decades. Morris Bellamy is livid, not just because Rothstein has stopped providing books, but because the nonconformist Jimmy Gold has sold out for a career in advertising. Morris kills Rothstein and empties his safe of cash, yes, but the real treasure is a trove of notebooks containing at least one more Gold novel. Morris hides the money and the notebooks, and then he is locked away for another crime. Decades later, a boy named Pete Saubers finds the treasure, and now it is Pete and his family that Bill Hodges, Holly Gibney, and Jerome Robinson must rescue from the ever-more deranged and vengeful Morris when he’s released from prison after thirty-five years. I just recently finished reading the second book in Stephen King's Bill Hodge's trilogy. I thought it was a pretty good follow up to the first one, but I did not like it more than the first book. I thought the first [...]

Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children Series

2016-05-09T20:52:16-06:00May 9th, 2016|Tags: , , , , , , , |0 Comments

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (#1): A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of curious photographs. A horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive. Hollow City (#2): Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children was the surprise best seller of 2011—an unprecedented mix of YA fantasy and vintage photography that enthralled readers and critics alike. Publishers Weekly called it “an enjoyable, eccentric read, distinguished by well-developed characters, a believable Welsh setting, and some very creepy monsters.” This second novel begins in 1940, immediately after the first book ended. Having escaped Miss Peregrine’s island by the skin of their teeth, Jacob and his new friends must journey to London, the peculiar capital of the world. Along the way, they encounter new allies, a menagerie of peculiar animals, and other [...]

1st Ever Book Blogger Hop

2016-05-02T16:45:39-06:00May 2nd, 2016|Tags: , , |0 Comments

I have been wanting to get into some blog hops and I found this really fun one at Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. The question I am asking: Do you read and review books mainly for publishers or authors? Well for me I have only got one request to read an ARC and so I am working on that one. So right now my reading and reviews are just for my own pleasure with hopes that I am going to start attracting some attention to my blog and will then get to do some more ARCs and such.

Tiger’s Destiny (Tiger Saga #4)

2016-05-02T14:42:43-06:00May 2nd, 2016|Tags: , , , , |0 Comments

Book Description: With three of the goddess Durga's quests behind them, only one prophecy now stands in the way of Kelsey, Ren, and Kishan breaking the tiger's curse. But the trio's greatest challenge awaits them: A life-endangering pursuit in search of Durga's final gift, the Rope of Fire, on the Andaman Islands in the Bay of Bengal.  It's a race against time--and the evil sorcerer Lokesh--in this eagerly anticipated fourth volume in the bestselling Tiger's Curse series, which pits good against evil, tests the bonds of love and loyalty, and finally reveals the tigers' true destinies once and for all I have finished the last book in the Tiger Saga series and I have to say it was a good ending. It had some emotional moments that the others didn't have. In fact for the last 20 or so pages I was basically crying for different reason! Not many books can make me cry but this one did, there was sad crying and happy crying. I think it might have been my favorite of the series, which again is rare for me to like the last book in a series more than [...]

Tiger’s Voyage (The Tiger Saga #3)

2016-05-02T14:48:35-06:00April 27th, 2016|Tags: , , , , |0 Comments

Book Description: With the head-to-head battle against the villainous Lokesh behind her, Kelsey confronts a new heartbreak: in the wake of his traumatic experience, her beloved Ren no longer remembers who she is. As the trio continues their quest by challenging five cunning and duplicitous dragons, Ren and Kishan once more vie for her affections--leaving Kelsey more confused than ever. I just finished the third book the The Tiger Saga series by Colleen Houck. I am mostly enjoying this series so far. I am getting a little annoyed with the poor pitiful me mood that Kelsey sometimes gets into. I get it maybe in the first book because these adventures are new to her and what she is having to do is hard, but she is on the third quest by now. It seems to be that there is like an outline for each quest in each book. She has to do something and gets super scared and whiney about it and then she somehow gets hurt in some way or another and almost dies. Now don't get me wrong this doesn't make me not like the series I just wish [...]

Figment (Insanity #2)

2016-05-02T14:47:38-06:00April 21st, 2016|Tags: , , , , , , |0 Comments

This is the second book in the Insanity series by Cameron Jace. It is about a mad Wonderland. I stumbled across this one day and thought hey this series sounds like a fun different read. I have so far really enjoyed it! Description: After her encounter with the Cheshire Cat, Alice Wonder can hardly tell reality from imagination. But when kids have their head chopped off and stuffed in watermelons all over the city, it's clear that another Wonderland Monster has arrived, possibly scarier than the Cheshire. Alice, along with Professor Pillar, have to solve the killer's puzzles before a horrible event threatens the death of millions. Then Jack Diamonds appears again. This time, Alice must know who he really is. The first book in this series was great it kept me hanging on and wanting to know what was going to happen and see if she was truly the real Alice. Book 2 did not disappoint. It left off right after the first one and once again you are immersed in this crazy reality of are Wonderland Monsters taking over the real world and is Alice really the real Alice [...]

Passenger (Passenger #1)

2016-05-02T14:45:36-06:00April 19th, 2016|Tags: , , , , , |0 Comments

I was walking through Costco a while ago and was looking in the book section for a book for my friend for her birthday. I happened to see the cover of this book and I was like hey this is a cool cover, then I read about it and was like that sounds interesting and it is going to be a series not just one book (my friend really likes series books, as do I). Well we ended up not getting a chance to meet up after I bought it and I had about a month until we had a chance to meet up again (she lives in a different state) so I thought hey we share books she won't mind if I read this one, so I did. Man am I glad I did! I loved it! Here is the description before I get too far into my review: In one devastating night, violin prodigy Etta Spencer loses everything she knows and loves. Thrust into an unfamiliar world by a stranger with a dangerous agenda, Etta is certain of only one thing: she has traveled not just miles but years [...]

Odd Hours (Odd Thomas #4)

2016-04-19T02:25:34-06:00April 19th, 2016|Tags: , , , , , |0 Comments

I have been slowly working my way though the Odd Thomas series, I was actually lent the first 4 by my sister-in-law. They are good books to read in between those really long ones because they are a quick read. For some reason when it takes me a long time to read a book I get really antsy and so I need a good quick one I can read in a week just to like reassure myself I can still read a book fast. This is the 4th book in the Dean Koontz series. Odd Hours by Dean Koontz Description of the book: After grappling with the very essence of reality itself, after finding the veil separating him from his soul mate, Stormy Llewellyn, tantalizingly thin yet impenetrable, Odd longed only to return to a life of quiet anonymity with his two otherworldly sidekicks—his dog Boo and a new companion, one of the few who might rival his old pal Elvis. But a true hero, however humble, must persevere. Haunted by dreams of an all-encompassing red tide, Odd is pulled inexorably to the sea, to a small California coastal [...]

Shadowhunters Season 1

2016-04-18T20:45:17-06:00April 18th, 2016|Tags: , , , |0 Comments

I just finished watching the first season of Shadowhunters yesterday. I was really excited when I heard the series was coming out and I wasn't disappointed. Were there some things I didn't like yes, but overall I really enjoyed it and am very excited it got renewed for the second season. First let me say I saw the movie and I really did not like it. I thought the person they picked for Jace was just definitely not my idea of Jace. This Jace, Dominic Sherwood from Vampire Academy, in the TV series is way better! He is attractive and looks the part, like to me more manly than the other Jace. Clary, Katherine McNamara, was my least favorite in the beginning, she looked the part but her acting just wasn't as great as the rest. Towards the end of the series I thought she did better. Alec, Matthew Daddario, was a great character I think he played the part well, and again attractive. Can I just say in that scene where he is trying to use the parabati bond to find Jace he has the most even chest hair I [...]

So I dreamed I married Chandler Bing….

2016-04-18T15:43:53-06:00April 18th, 2016|Tags: , , , |0 Comments

Alright so last night I dreamed I married Chandler from friends....yeah that was an interesting dream. First is it just weird to have dreams where you are marrying another guy or even other dating dreams when you are in fact married. Now we are about to have a Friends theme quiz for Geeks Who Drink so I have been in Friends study mode so that might be why it was subconsciously in my brain. It was kind of hard to tell if I was me or Monica. I am pretty sure I was me, but was I me as Monica. The dream started with me not knowing what was happening besides I was getting ready for something. We went to have our hair done and they first asked if I wanted my nails painted I was like sure why not, and they turned out absolutely horrible I mean it looked like a 3 year old painted them. Then we had makeup done and then it switched to we were at a house and we realized that my hair had not been done. Now how in the heck we missed that and [...]

Da Vinci’s Tiger

2016-04-19T02:25:00-06:00April 18th, 2016|Tags: , |0 Comments

Da Vinci's Tiger by L. M. Elliott I am a subscriber to OwlCrate, a book box, and for the December box I received this book. The theme was Get Inspired. I thought the cover of this book was very pretty. Here is the description of the book: The young and beautiful daughter of a wealthy family, Ginevra longs to share her poetry and participate in the artistic ferment of Renaissance Florence but is trapped in an arranged marriage in a society dictated by men. The arrival of the charismatic Venetian ambassador, Bernardo Bembo, introduces Ginevra to a dazzling circle of patrons, artists, and philosophers. Bembo chooses Ginevra as his Platonic muse and commissions a portrait of her by a young Leonardo da Vinci. Posing for the brilliant painter inspires an intimate connection between them, one Ginevra only begins to understand. In a rich and vivid world of exquisite art with a dangerous underbelly of deadly political feuds, Ginevra faces many challenges to discover her voice and artistic companionship—and to find love This book is a historical fiction book and used a real painting for inspiration. I thought it was [...]
