Singing Fire

2017-01-06T17:17:37-07:00January 6th, 2017|Tags: , , , |0 Comments

Book Description: Constant chills, panic attacks, and now paranoia – there’s a reason seventeen-year-old Charlie keeps to herself.  Life is looking up when she gets a job at a whimsical tea shop and gains a few new friends, but little does Charlie know there are secrets lurking beyond its door.  It only takes one night for her perspective on her small town to change forever. As if witches, vampires, and demons weren’t enough, she soon realizes she’s being hunted for a power she didn’t know she possessed.  Singing Fire takes Charlie through an unexpected journey of self-discovery, betrayal, and forbidden love all while the clock is ticking for her to defeat the dark souls pursuing her – before anyone else dear to her has to die.  I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I was definitely hooked on this book from the beginning, it took me just three days to read it! I thought it was an interesting concept. I mean witches, vampires, and demons are not a new concept, but the idea that there is an Opal that gives other supernaturals heightened power is something [...]

Book Description: Let’s suppose you are a heartbroken woman trying to get over the pain of a failed relationship. You’ve always wanted to see the world. What do you do? Perhaps you would do what Sarah does: travel alone to Dublin and leave your worries behind. She wants to start from scratch, to forget about it all; to enjoy the lush green countryside, the Celtic music, the famous pubs. However, her life turns upside down when she finds herself living under the same roof as Daniel, a handsome yet stubborn Irishman. Both Daniel and Sarah have their reasons for not falling in love, but love has other plans. Things become more complicated because love affairs are prohibited between housemates. This is an unbreakable rule that also applies to the three other residents: a shameless womanizer, an absent-minded musician and a new female best friend, intrusive and meddling. It’s a fun and exciting intercultural household for Sarah to adapt to! And as if that wasn’t enough, she also has to deal with Daniel’s heated misunderstandings, with an insistent ex-boyfriend and some compromising situations with a very sexy Frenchman. This is a new life [...]

Book Description: This unforgettable odyssey into the distant past carries us back to the awesome mysteries of the exotic, primeval world of The Clan of the Cave Bear, and to Ayla, now grown into a beautiful and courageous young woman. The short summer gives her little time to look, and when she finds a sheltered valley with a herd of hardy steppe horses, she decides to stay and prepare for the long glacial winter ahead. Living with the Clan has taught Ayla many skills but not real hunting. She finally knows she can survive when she traps a horse, which gives her meat and a warm pelt for the winter, but fate has bestowed a greater gift, an orphaned foal with whom she develops a unique kinship. One winter extends to more; she discovers a way to make fire more quickly and a wounded [...]

Book Description: Charlotte, Branwell, Emily, and Anne. The Brontë siblings have always been close. After all, nothing can unite four siblings quite like life in an isolated parsonage on the moors. Their vivid imaginations lend them escape from their strict, spartan upbringing, actually transporting them into their created worlds: the glittering Verdopolis and the romantic and melancholy Gondal. But at what price? As Branwell begins to slip into madness and the sisters feel their real lives slipping away, they must weigh the cost of their powerful imaginations, even as their characters—the brooding Rogue and dashing Duke of Zamorna—refuse to let them go. This is the book I received in my January Owl Crate book box. Yes it is from January, but mind you I have 2 book boxes I get a month and books I find on my own so trying to keep up with all those and school and work and life it gets me behind, unfortunately because I would love to just be able to read and read. Anyway I was never a huge fan of the Bronte works themselves I have read them and they are alright, but [...]

The Neverland Wars

Book Description: Magic can do a lot—give you flight, show you mermaids, help you taste the stars, and… solve the budget crisis? That's what the grown-ups will do with it if they ever make it to Neverland to steal its magic and bring their children home. However, Gwen doesn't know this. She's just a sixteen-year-old girl with a place on the debate team and a powerful crush on Jay, the soon-to-be homecoming king. She doesn't know her little sister could actually run away with Peter Pan, or that she might have to chase after her to bring her home safe. Gwen will find out though—and when she does, she'll discover she's in the middle of a looming war between Neverland and reality. She'll be out of place as a teenager in Neverland, but she won't be the only one. Peter Pan's constant treks back to the mainland have slowly aged him into adolescence as well. Soon, Gwen will have to decide whether she's going to join impish, playful Peter in his fight for eternal youth… or if she's going to scramble back to reality in time for the homecoming dance. I [...]

Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy #2)

2016-06-23T15:25:02-06:00June 23rd, 2016|Tags: , , , , , , |1 Comment

Book Description: Historian Diana Bishop, descended from a line of powerful witches, and long-lived vampire Matthew Clairmont have broken the laws dividing creatures. When Diana discovered a significant alchemical manuscript in the Bodleian Library, she sparked a struggle in which she became bound to Matthew. Now the fragile coexistence of witches, daemons, vampires and humans is dangerously threatened. Seeking safety, Diana and Matthew travel back in time to London, 1590. But they soon realize that the past may not provide a haven. Reclaiming his former identity as poet and spy for Queen Elizabeth, the vampire falls back in with a group of radicals known as the School of Night. Many are unruly daemons, the creative minds of the age, including playwright Christopher Marlowe and mathematician Thomas Harriot. Together Matthew and Diana scour Tudor London for the elusive manuscript Ashmole 782, and search for the witch who will teach Diana how to control her remarkable powers... I really enjoyed the second book in this series. I really like that this series has some thrills, romance, humor, and fun. I also really like reading a book again where it isn't a love triangle [...]

Voyager (Outlander #3)

Book Description: Their passionate encounter happened long ago by whatever measurement Claire Randall took. Two decades before, she had traveled back in time and into the arms of a gallant eighteenth-century Scot named Jamie Fraser. Then she returned to her own century to bear his child, believing him dead in the tragic battle of Culloden. Yet his memory has never lessened its hold on her... and her body still cries out for him in her dreams. Then Claire discovers that Jamie survived. Torn between returning to him and staying with their daughter in her own era, Claire must choose her destiny. And as time and space come full circle, she must find the courage to face the passion and pain awaiting her...the deadly intrigues raging in a divided Scotland... and the daring voyage into the dark unknown that can reunite or forever doom her timeless love. I must admit I went into this book with some hope, in the middle I thought I am not sure I will finish the series, and ended with yes I will continue onto the next book. I feel like with this series it is like [...]

Figment (Insanity #2)

2016-05-02T14:47:38-06:00April 21st, 2016|Tags: , , , , , , |0 Comments

This is the second book in the Insanity series by Cameron Jace. It is about a mad Wonderland. I stumbled across this one day and thought hey this series sounds like a fun different read. I have so far really enjoyed it! Description: After her encounter with the Cheshire Cat, Alice Wonder can hardly tell reality from imagination. But when kids have their head chopped off and stuffed in watermelons all over the city, it's clear that another Wonderland Monster has arrived, possibly scarier than the Cheshire. Alice, along with Professor Pillar, have to solve the killer's puzzles before a horrible event threatens the death of millions. Then Jack Diamonds appears again. This time, Alice must know who he really is. The first book in this series was great it kept me hanging on and wanting to know what was going to happen and see if she was truly the real Alice. Book 2 did not disappoint. It left off right after the first one and once again you are immersed in this crazy reality of are Wonderland Monsters taking over the real world and is Alice really the real Alice [...]

Passenger (Passenger #1)

2016-05-02T14:45:36-06:00April 19th, 2016|Tags: , , , , , |0 Comments

I was walking through Costco a while ago and was looking in the book section for a book for my friend for her birthday. I happened to see the cover of this book and I was like hey this is a cool cover, then I read about it and was like that sounds interesting and it is going to be a series not just one book (my friend really likes series books, as do I). Well we ended up not getting a chance to meet up after I bought it and I had about a month until we had a chance to meet up again (she lives in a different state) so I thought hey we share books she won't mind if I read this one, so I did. Man am I glad I did! I loved it! Here is the description before I get too far into my review: In one devastating night, violin prodigy Etta Spencer loses everything she knows and loves. Thrust into an unfamiliar world by a stranger with a dangerous agenda, Etta is certain of only one thing: she has traveled not just miles but years [...]

Da Vinci’s Tiger

2016-04-19T02:25:00-06:00April 18th, 2016|Tags: , |0 Comments

Da Vinci's Tiger by L. M. Elliott I am a subscriber to OwlCrate, a book box, and for the December box I received this book. The theme was Get Inspired. I thought the cover of this book was very pretty. Here is the description of the book: The young and beautiful daughter of a wealthy family, Ginevra longs to share her poetry and participate in the artistic ferment of Renaissance Florence but is trapped in an arranged marriage in a society dictated by men. The arrival of the charismatic Venetian ambassador, Bernardo Bembo, introduces Ginevra to a dazzling circle of patrons, artists, and philosophers. Bembo chooses Ginevra as his Platonic muse and commissions a portrait of her by a young Leonardo da Vinci. Posing for the brilliant painter inspires an intimate connection between them, one Ginevra only begins to understand. In a rich and vivid world of exquisite art with a dangerous underbelly of deadly political feuds, Ginevra faces many challenges to discover her voice and artistic companionship—and to find love This book is a historical fiction book and used a real painting for inspiration. I thought it was [...]
