Description: Can Cameron find what he’s looking for?
All 16-year-old Cameron wants is to get through high school—and life in general—with a minimum of effort. It’s not a lot to ask. But that’s before he’s given some bad he’s sick and he’s going to die. Which totally sucks. Hope arrives in the winged form of Dulcie, a loopy punk angel/possible hallucination with a bad sugar habit. She tells Cam there is a cure—if he’s willing to go in search of it. With the help of a death-obsessed, video-gaming dwarf and a yard gnome, Cam sets off on the mother of all road trips through a twisted America into the heart of what matters most.
I am working my way through a book a month that my friends have suggested. This was from one of my best friends and we always share books. This one did not disappoint! First off I have to say I love that it had so many mentions of Disneyland because I am a huge Disney fan. So, it had me hooked right away.
I found myself laughing a lot in this book because it is just so weird and random It was a great adventure, while also having the emotional feels along with it since Cameron is on this adventure to try and save himself. You get the sense he is on this fantasy adventure, but you also know that it is really in his head because of his sickness. I thought the ideas that the author came up with on this adventure to go along with real things that have happened in his life were fun. The plot moved along well and the writing was well done.
I thought Cameron was a good character, I was definitely rooting for him to have this really save him. I loved the yard gnome, Balder, he made me laugh, especially when they were finding different ways to try and kill him, and nothing could. Dulcie was fun and cute and I am glad how even with how it ended they were able to be together again. The ending definitely left me with some feelings and I wanted the ending to be different but also it was the ending that should have been. I had a lot of fun reading this book and it was a good suggestion!
